A few weeks ago I took my beloved (BX) in for the FEL float detent repair. (Detent wouldn't hold) Repaired under warranty along with a minor hydraulic drip. Everyone was happy. :0)

I just got a call today from the service manager who was very nice, hat in hand, saying that the FEL only has a 1 year warranty (expired in October) and they couldn't warranty the repair. Instead of just sending a bill or something similar, he just asked "How can we work this out?" We decided that if I paid for the parts, he would pay the labor (about 50-50%).

Because of their help to me on previous occasions, I was willing to help them here. This is an example of how a relationship between a customer and a dealer can benefit both sides at differant times.

Glad you were able to work it out amicably, all to often situations like that quickly degrade into 'upwind urination contests'. In the end nobody wins those contests, both parties get wet.

My dealer is really good about stuff like that also.

He will often do repairs for parts cost only, provided it's done on an 'as time allows' as a means to provide hands on experience to the apprentices under the supervision of the more experienced mechanics.

This is often the best of all worlds, we get repairs done cheaper, they sell parts, keep a client happy and the younger mechanics get experience they otherwise would not have gotten.

Best of luck. ....

I had my float detent stop working as well and had it repaired under warranty. Now I am having the same problem again but the warranty has expired. Does anyone know if this a common problem that maybe I can fix or adjust myself or should I just bite the bullet and take it in? ....

The service manager told me they replace the "detent" on mine. Parts cost was $32. It doesn't appear to have been a big deal to fix, though.

I do think there is a problem with these valves. Weak spring or something. We are not alone.

How many hours on the first repair? How many now? Let try for a pattern, and maybe a preemptive fix. ....
